Goldman Sans is a clean, modern typeface designed for the needs of digital finance.
When we set out to design a custom typeface for Goldman Sachs, we knew that these three attributes would guide every decision we made along the way. The font needed to draw from the firm's 150-year heritage while looking ahead to what Goldman Sachs wanted to be in the future.
From open letter shapes, enlarged x-height, and optical balancing of individual letterforms, every part of Goldman Sans is designed for clarity and accessibility.
To be approachable without being whimsical, letter shapes are relatively unmannered. More distinctive treatments, however, pop up in lesser-used characters, such as the ampersand.
Goldman Sans has to excel in readability of large quantities of very small numbersβ¦
Lots and lots of very small numbers.
The numbers balance harmoniously with the alphabetic design language without compromising their performance as a system in their own right. Careful attention has been paid to ensure ample distinction between commonly confused shapes.
Restrained uppercase character widths improve integration with tabular numbers. Fixed spacing across multiple weights ensures columns of numbers line up.
By balancing optical weights of the numerals and avoiding complex strokes that disrupt readability, Goldman Sans helps data-obsessed people find the information in the noise.
With six roman weights, three italic weights, and two condensed weights, Goldman Sans is poised to serve the firm for years to come.
